Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto endured one of his toughest outings of the season on May 12, allowing three home runs for the first time in his Major League career as the Dodgers fell 2-6 to the San Francisco Giants. Yamamoto struggled early, giving up multiple runs, and the team could not recover despite an early lead.
Reflecting on his performance, Yamamoto emphasized the need to focus on fundamentals. “I need to prioritize the basics of pitching,” he said. “When you have a lead, it’s only natural to protect it.” The right-hander acknowledged that teammate Shohei Ohtani’s home run earlier in the game had energized the dugout, but the excitement quickly turned to frustration as the Giants mounted a comeback.
“I was happy when Shohei hit that homer – it really got the crowd going,” Yamamoto added. “But it’s disappointing we couldn’t hold on. The pitching staff has to do a better job shutting down rallies.” The loss dropped Yamamoto’s record to 3-3 as he continues to adjust to MLB hitters.
