The Guardians cruised to a comfortable 7-2 win over a struggling Los Angeles Angels squad on Tuesday night.
Brayan Rocchio finally delivered a hit with runners in scoring position in the second inning, breaking a frustrating stretch. Daniel Schneemann followed with a bloop single that drove in two runs in the third inning, providing some welcome relief after numerous hard-hit balls were caught in the previous series.
Travis Bazzana capped Cleveland’s scoring with a two-run double in the later innings.
Interestingly, the top five hitters in the Guardians’ lineup went 0-for-14 collectively, but they managed to draw six walks — three from Rhys Hoskins, two from Steven Kwan, and one from Chase DeLauter. José Ramírez hit several balls hard but finished 0-for-5 with a strikeout, highlighting his ongoing struggles. However, when the bottom of the order goes 7-for-17 with four walks, the team can win plenty of games while waiting for the stars to heat up.
Joey Cantillo was excellent, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out four. Matt Festa was shaky but still managed a scoreless inning, while Colin Holderman and Peyton Pallette each surrendered a run, but with the game well in hand, it didn’t matter.
Now the Guardians have a chance to secure a series victory in what looks like the toughest matchup on paper, as Slade Cecconi faces off against Walbert Urena.
