On May 11, Zhejiang Club Greentown goalkeeper Dong Chunyu took to social media to address the controversial penalty awarded against his team in the closing moments of their match.
In his post, Dong wrote: “This is the first time in my professional career that I’ve encountered a penalty like this. I’ve heard the different opinions from the outside world, and I accept them all. I won’t complain, I won’t make excuses—I fully embrace every test that fate throws at me. I take full responsibility for the disappointment of not securing three points. Whether on the pitch or off it, I will give everything for this team. As for the rest, I’ll let it be and take things as they come.”
In the final moments of the 1-1 draw between Zhejiang and Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, Dong Chunyu collided with Tianjin’s forward Kileis while coming out to challenge. Referee Mamatjan awarded a penalty, which was converted by Hadas to secure the equalizer for the visitors.
