According to NBA reporter Brett Siegel, the Golden State Warriors have been actively pursuing LeBron James for the past four to five years. The franchise aims to seize the remaining years of Stephen Curry’s prime by uniting the two veteran superstars in a push for contention.
“The probability of LeBron James landing with the Golden State Warriors is real,” Siegel stated. “This is a team that has chased him for the last four or five years. You could say they’ve long dreamed of pairing LeBron James with Stephen Curry. Given their history of rivalry—from all those Finals series between the Cavaliers and the Warriors—it sounds a bit crazy to say it now.”
“But the Warriors and owner Joe Lacob want to make a splash. They want to capitalize on the final years of Curry’s career.”
“James and Curry clearly enjoyed playing together during the Olympics, and NBA fans have always fantasized about the moment they share the same uniform in the league.”
“The Warriors will join the race for James. However, that would require James to take a contract much lower than what he currently earns with the Lakers—and what he could potentially earn there otherwise. It wouldn’t be a $50 million or $40 million deal; it would likely have to come down to the mid-level exception level.”
“This would also demand a pay cut from Draymond Green, who would need to decline his $28 million or $29 million player option.”
