Luis Casimiro has signed a one-year contract extension with Rio Breogan, keeping him at the club until June 2027. The veteran coach took over the Lugo-based side in December 2024, replacing Croatian Veljko Mrsic, and successfully guided the team to a comfortable safety in the ACB League after a tough start to the season.

“Casimiro arrived in Lugo to take charge of the team in the 10th round of the 2024-25 season. He managed to turn around the club’s fortunes and secure a comfortable survival following a difficult opening to the league,” the club said in a statement.

With a career spanning more than 800 ACB games—currently third in the all-time list behind Aíto García Reneses and Pedro Martínez—Casimiro will begin his third season at Pazo Provincial de Lugo. He made his ACB debut in the 1997-98 season at age 27, achieving one of Spanish basketball’s greatest feats: winning the title with TDK Manresa despite being the lower seed in every playoff series, a feat no other club has matched.

Throughout his extensive ACB career, Casimiro has coached a dozen different teams. He has missed only two seasons since his debut in September 1997—the 2004-05 campaign, when he won the LEB Oro title and promotion with Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, and the 2012-13 season.
