Ramón Planes is finalizing his departure from Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad, with talks at an advanced stage to mutually terminate his contract, according to reports from Footmercato and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. This resolution would leave the Catalan executive free to explore new opportunities in Europe.
The Spanish sporting director joined Al Ittihad in February 2024 after leaving Real Betis, drawn by the ambitious project of the Saudi Pro League. During his time in Jeddah, he helped establish the club as a competitive force, playing a key role in squad planning and institutional management. His tenure included winning both a league title and a domestic cup, as well as professionalizing the club’s operations.
Planes, who previously served as sporting director at FC Barcelona and has experience with clubs like Getafe, Espanyol, Tottenham Hotspur, and Real Betis, remains a highly regarded figure in the European market. In recent weeks, his name has been linked to several ambitious projects across the continent.
While in Saudi Arabia, Planes also gained media attention for his close relationship with Al Ittihad star Karim Benzema. He publicly defended the French striker’s place at the club and highlighted the growing appeal of the Saudi league as a competitive destination for elite players.
Although no official announcement has been made, all signs point to the Spanish sporting director wrapping up his Middle Eastern chapter soon and embarking on a new challenge in Europe.
