After defeating Elche, Real Betis has secured fifth place in La Liga, guaranteeing a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Manager Manuel Pellegrini praised his team’s resilience in the face of painful defeats and injuries, dedicating the success to the fans.
Reflecting on the season, Pellegrini said: “I am very satisfied and happy with what the team has achieved this season. We have experienced painful losses and injuries. We owed the fans such joy. This is a huge happiness for all Betis supporters.”
Discussing the tactical adjustments at halftime, he noted: “By halftime, we already knew the result of Celta Vigo’s match. In the first half, both teams barely created chances, but we came out in the second half determined to win. After scoring the second goal, we knew how to hold on to the lead.”
On the tension during the game, he admitted: “We wanted to win and not drag this out for another two weeks. There was tension—it was never easy—but the team ultimately delivered.”
Speaking about the fans and the squad’s overall performance, Pellegrini emphasized: “The players have had a fantastic season. Despite painful defeats and injuries, we always got back up. The fans have given us tremendous support, and I think everyone has done excellently. Securing Champions League football is a great achievement for this club, especially given the high standards we set from the start. I am also very happy for every Betis fan.”
