Monbus Obradoiro has clinched their return to the Liga Endesa, securing the top spot in the Primera FEB with a decisive 85-68 victory over Inveready Gipuzkoa on the final matchday. The triumph marks an emotional comeback for the Galician side, who lost their place in the top-tier league just two seasons ago.
The club’s relegation at the end of the 2023-24 season was particularly cruel, decided by a three-way tie-break with Coviran Granada and Río Breogán that ultimately sent Obradoiro down. That defeat ended the longest and most stable era in the club’s history at the highest level of Spanish basketball.
Monbus Obradoiro now boasts a total of 14 seasons in the ACB, making them the 24th team with the most games played in the Liga Endesa (493 matches, 173 wins). Their first-ever ACB stint came in 2009-10—a season that ended in relegation, but featured a curious coincidence: their final win that campaign came against the very same Basque club, then known as Lagun Aro GBC (86-77).
Just one year later, in 2010-11, Obradoiro earned promotion again by beating Ford Burgos in the playoffs, kick-starting a 13-year consecutive run in the Liga Endesa from 2011-12 to 2023-24. During that period, they achieved historic milestones: finishing eighth in the 2012-13 season and qualifying for the title playoffs against Real Madrid, along with appearances in the Copa del Rey (2016) and the Supercopa Endesa (2018).
The ACB promotion playoffs are now set:
- Movistar Estudiantes vs HLA Lucentum Alicante
- Leyma Coruña vs Hestia Menorca
- Súper Agropal Palencia vs Flexicar Fuenlabrada
- Inveready Gipuzkoa vs Alimerka Oviedo
Meanwhile, Melilla and Cartagena have been relegated from Primera FEB.
